Meet Our Clerk, Lauren Bick!

We’re excited to welcome Lauren to the JCA Law team! A recent graduate of SMU, Lauren will be assisting our attorneys and helping around the office in San Antonio as she prepares to take the LSAT this fall. We're glad to have her on board!

What inspired you to pursue a career in the legal field?

I am inspired to pursue a career in the legal field by all those cases in which the law fails to fulfill its protective intentions, and I hope to minimize these failings. Valuing fairness and the equal application of the law has led me to pursue a career in which I can promote these values for all people.

What will your role at JCA Law involve, and what are you most looking forward to?

As a law clerk at JCA, my role will involve research, organization, and any other tasks that need a helping hand. I am most looking forward to learning about and supporting JCA’s activities in Public Education Law, including preparing for and attending Board Meetings and Presentations. I am also looking forward to aiding in the expansion of JCA’s social media presence with a project aimed at informing the public about Public Education Law matters.

Tell us about a professional accomplishment you’re especially proud of?

I am especially proud of my work with the Bexar County Children’s Court and the League of Women Voters Texas over the past year, during which I advocated for the needs and interests of Texas foster youth before the State Legislature. As an advocate, my work mobilizing volunteers, spreading awareness, providing testimony helped advance bills to address the needs of Texas foster youth, like HB 1211, which will help more Texas foster youth access benefits for continuing education after high school.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy keeping up with current events, reading, traveling, and spending time with friends, family, and pets. Currently, I am enjoying (re)reading “The Plague” by Albert Camus and spending time with my new pet kitten, Pancetta!

What’s a fun fact your new coworkers might not know about you?

A fun fact you might not know about me is that I lived abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark for a year and traveled to 17 different countries during my time there.
